Most Kenyans, especially the majority poor rely almost exclusively on land and natural resources, such as forests, water, wildlife, fisheries, dry lands, wetlands and minerals – for sustenance. Apart from Agriculture which sustains over 80% of Kenyans, other livelihood activities like pastoralism, fishing, tourism and processing natural resources for sale are entirely dependent on natural resources
Specifically, the project seeks to enhance community participation in development and implementation of county legislation and policy in county governments. The project targets communities around the Yala Swamp (Busia County & Siaya County).
The project will carry out various activities. These shall include: research on actual avenues for public participation in decision making including laws at the county government level; and awareness creation meetings in villages across the target area among other issues.
