The workshop will bring together approximately 30 participants drawn from national
and county governments, civil society organisations, private sector and research
organizations with the aim to discuss and review the Draft Climate Change Bill for Kwale County. The event will be facilitated by ILEG and the CCU.
The African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100) is an initiative by national governments, public and private sector partners, international development programmes and local communities committed to restore productivity to 100 million hectares of deforested and degraded African landscapes by 2030. In May 2022 ILEG’s Siaya Landscapes Restoration Project was selected among Africa’s top-100 projects to drive the AFR100’s ambitious goal. Through the project, ILEG committed to grow 100,000 trees on Got Abiero Hill, the Lake Kanyaboli riparian and on-farm tree planting through agroforestry. The overall objective of the project is to improve climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and community livelihoods in Siaya County.
To kickstart the project, ILEG has organized an inception meeting and formal launch of the project in Siaya on 23rd June 2022. The launch will take place at Got Abiero Hill near Kothacha Market, starting from 9.00am, followed by an Inception Meeting at ILEG’s Siaya office in Siala Plaza, 1st Floor in Siaya town starting at 2.00pm.
