Restoration of deforested and degraded landscapes is inextricably linked to the achievement of the Bonn Challenge, the African Resilient Landscapes Initiative (ARLI), the African Union Agenda 2063, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is for this reason that national governments, public and private sector partners, international development programmes and local communities committed to restore productivity to 100 million hectares of deforested and degraded African landscapes by 2030 through the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100). ILEG is privileged to have been selected among Africa’s top-100 organizations to drive the AFR100’s ambitious goal through its Siaya Landscapes Restoration Project. The project which is being implemented in Siaya County involves reforestation of Got Abiero Hill, riparian restoration of River Nyandiwa and Lake Kanyaboli area in the Yala Swamp wetland and on-farm tree planting through agroforestry. The overall objective of the project is to improve climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and community livelihoods in Siaya County.
