ILEG is an independent, non-profit public interest law and policy organization focused on promoting sustainable development. We work with local communities, governments, the private sector and civil society organizations (CSO’s) to ensure fair, balanced and equitable development policy choices to improve peoples’ lives and protect the environment.
The overall goal of the project is to promote enhanced transparency and accountability in the management of Kenya’s extractive sector.
It seeks to enhance the capacity of government agencies to embrace and internalize the values and principles of good governance – such as transparency and accountability, public participation and sustainable development.
It also seeks to promote better clarification, synergy and streamlining of functions between the national and county governments. Further, it aims at enhancing the capacity of mining communities, private sector and government to better understand good governance as well as the nature, potential and best practices in the extractive sector.
The project also promotes adoption and implementation of improved legal and policy regime relating to governance, especially in relation to transparency and accountability and sustainable development of mining, oil and gas in Kenya.
