Community forum on The Wildlife Conservation and Management (Amendment) Bill, 2017.

  • 24th May 2017
  • Pride Inn Hotel, Ukunda.

ILEG will on Wednesday 24th May 2017 support and facilitate a community forum to review and give input in the recently published Wildlife Conservation and Management (Amendment) Bill, 2017. The Bill seeks to amend the Wildlife Conservation and Management (Amendment) Bill, 2013, and provide clarity for effective implementation of the Act. Among other things, the Bill provides clearer penalties for violation of the Act. Wildlife is a key natural resource in Kwale County hence the Bill’s amendment has potentially far reaching implications for local residents. As such, ILEG and our long standing local partner the Kwale County Natural Resources Network (KCNRN) thought that Kwale people, and particularly the local community members who live side by side with wildlife and hence more directly affected, should not miss the opportunity to participate in the amendment of the Bill. The forum therefore aims to support the community members to debate the bill, prepare a memorandum and organize how to submit the same to the National Assembly. The one-day forum will take place at Pride Inn Hotel in Ukunda, Kwale County. For more information contact ileg@ilegkenya.org. FB.com/ilegke Twitter @ILEG_Kenya.
