ILEG is currently implementing a project that seeks to promote good governance and accountability in Kenya’s extractive sector. A key component of this project involves strengthening county-level capacities for development planning and extractive sector governance. It is against this backdrop that ILEG is organising a discussion forum on “Extractives in County-Level Development Planning.”

It will be conducted under the auspices of the Extractive Sector Forum (ESF). This ESF will be the 5th county-level and 11th overall, in a series of ESF convenings bringing together investors, government, civil society organizations and academia to discuss key concerns and emerging issues in the extractive sector in Kenya.

The intention of this ESF is to provide an opportunity to discuss the role of county governments in facilitating sustainable and responsible oil & gas exploration and mining and strategies for integrating extractives in county development planning and implementation. The forum will also provide an opportunity share findings of an inventory of impacts of oil & gas and minerals extraction on the environment and local communities.
